Kilogram Records ma przyjemność zaprezentować Snapshots: Complete, kompendium solowych nagrań Kena Vandermarka wydanych pierwotnie przez wytwórnię jako seria 4 limitowanych, 7-calowych singli. Zostały one wydane w 3-miesięcznych odstępach czasu począwszy od marca 2021 roku i wszystkie się wyprzedały. Po raz pierwszy muzyka będzie dostępna dla większości słuchaczy i zawiera 8 dodatkowych utworów, które początkowo nie zostały wydane ze względu na ograniczenie czasowe formatu nagrań 7″.
Każda 45-tka zawierała cztery improwizacje, w których Vandermark wykorzystał pełne instrumentarium: saksofon tenorowy i barytonowy, klarnet bb i basowy, a na okładkach znalazły się zdjęcia, które wykonał podczas swoich międzynarodowych tras koncertowych. Single zostały poświęcone krajom, które miały ogromny wpływ na jego twórczość: Japonii, Austrii, Brazylii i Polsce. Muzyka do pierwszych trzech edycji projektu „Snapshots” powstała w domu Kena w Chicago. Tom pierwszy prezentował cztery „mikro-improwizacje”, które zmieściły się w limicie czasowym 7″ singla. Druga odsłona powstała poprzez overdubbing improwizacji w celu stworzenia duetów, trzecia edycja rozszerzająca zasadę overdubbingu w celu opracowania triów.
Późną jesienią 2021 roku Ken mógł powrócić do Polski, aby po raz pierwszy wystąpić po dwuletniej przerwie spowodowanej pandemią COVID-19. Pomysł nagrania ostatniego tomu Snapshots w kraju, którego artyści pomogli wpłynąć na materiał, wydawał się idealny i po solowej trasie w Polsce, spędził dzień nagrywając w wiejskim domu poza Gdańskiem, overdubując improwizacje, aby stworzyć nową muzykę kwartetu.
Kilogram Records oficjalnie wyda Snapshots: Complete na Bandcamp Day, 5 maja 2023 roku. Płyta zawiera wszystkie utwory z 4 singli plus bonusy, w sumie 16 utworów, które biegną od solo do kwartetu i będzie również dostępna w formie cyfrowej do pobrania. Bez wątpienia jest to zupełnie wyjątkowy album w bogatej dyskografii Vandermarka. Kilogram Records is excited to present Snapshots: Complete, a compendium of solo recordings by Ken Vandermark originally issued by the label as a series of 4 limited edition, 7-inch singles. These were released at 3-month intervals starting in March of 2021 and all sold out immediately. This is the first time the music will be available to most listeners and includes 8 additional tracks that weren’t initially released due to the time constraint of the 7″ recording format.
Each 45 contained four improvisations which used Vandermark’s full instrumentation: tenor & baritone sax, Bb & bass clarinet, and included cover art from photographs that he took during his international touring schedule. The singles were dedicated to countries that have had tremendous impact on his work: Japan, Austria, Brazil, and Poland. Music for the first three editions of the „Snapshots” project were created at Ken’s home in Chicago. Volume 1 presented four „micro-improvisations” that could fit within the time limit of a 7″ single. The second installment was created by overdubbing improvisations to make duos, the third edition extending the overdubbing principle to develop trios.
In late autumn of 2021, Ken was able to return to Poland to perform for the first time after a two-year hiatus caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. The idea of recording the final volume of Snapshots in the country whose artists helped influence the material seemed ideal and, after a solo tour in Poland, he spent a day recording in a country home outside of Gdansk, overdubbing improvisations to create new quartet music.
Kilogram Records will officially release Snapshots: Complete on Bandcamp Day, May 5, 2023. The CD includes all the music from the 4 singles plus bonus tracks for a total of 16 pieces that run the gamut from solo to quartet and will also be available as a digital download. Without question, it is a completely unique album for Vandermark’s expansive discography.
